The New York Yankees’ big trade deadline splash is finally official. After first being reported last night, the team has officially acquired slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers.

Gallo was scratched from last night’s Rangers game as the news came out. On the year, he’s hitting .223 with an .869 OPS. He has 25 home runs and 55 RBIs on the year. There are few more clear “three true outcomes” players, as he also leads the majors with 74 walks, while striking out 125 times, a jarring 32.2-percent of his at-bats.

He gives the Yankees serious pop, though, and adds a quality glove to the team’s outfield. The lefty slugger should also feast in the bandbox that is Yankee Stadium.

Moments ago, the deal became official. The Yankees pull off the deal a day before the trade deadline, which hits at 4 p.m. ET on Friday.

In addition to Joey Gallo, New York also adds lefty pitcher Joely Rodriguez in the deal. In return, they send four minor league players: righty pitcher Glenn Otto, and infielders Ezequiel Duran, Trevor Hauver, and Josh Smith. The Rangers will also eat the salary of Gallo and Rodriguez, sweetening the pot for the Yankees.

The 27-year old Gallo is making $6.2 million this year. He’s arbitration-eligible next year, before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Rodriguez has struggled for Texas this year. IN 31 appearances, he’s pitched 27.1 innings, posting a 5.93 ERA.

The MLB’s prospect rankings for the Rangers have already updated to reflect the trade. Smith and Duran come in at No. 7 and No. 8 in the RAngers’ system, followed by Hauver (19) and Otto (23).

The New York Yankees’ work is far from done. At 53-47, the team is 8.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox and six behind the Tampa Bay Rays, who have been aggressive ahead of Friday’s deadline as well, in the AL East. They’re 2.5 behind the Oakland A’s, another team ramping up this week, for the second Wild Card spot.
