Xbox has detailed the first wave of free games coming to Game Pass in May, across consoles, PC and cloud streaming.

As a refresher, there are three different versions of Microsoft's subscription service: one for console, one for PC and an Ultimate tier that combines the two and adds a streaming option for both systems and smart devices.

The first game coming to the subscription dropped yesterday: Redfall (cloud, console, PC). It's a first-person shooter from Bethesda and has a similar vibe to the publisher's previous game Deathloop — only this time, there are vampires.

The hook here is that there are four playable characters with different superpowers, and you can play in the open world in either solo or co-op modes. Note that you can't download Redfall to Xbox One consoles, but you can stream the Series X version if you're on Ultimate.

Coming May 4 is Ravenlok (cloud, console, PC), another day-one Game Pass release. This action role-playing title isn't rewriting the book in terms of gameplay but it is referencing a classic book in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland — with characters like the Queen of Hearts and a robotic Tweedledum and Tweedledee rendered in a gorgeous handcrafted style.

Weird West: Definitive Edition (Series X|S) joins the service on May 8. It's a remaster of last year's top-down action RPG that added a supernatural twist on the American frontier.

The day after that (May 9), the Shadowrun Trilogy (PC) brings its dystopian cyberpunk future and tactical RPG gameplay to computer players. The game is already available for subscribers as a console download and on cloud streaming.

Coming May 11, Fuga: Memories of Steel 2 (cloud, console, PC) is yet another day-one Game Pass release and yet another RPG. However, this one is turn-based and full of anthropomorphic animals.

On May 15, a number of games are leaving Game Pass:

  • Before We Leave (cloud, console, PC)

  • Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Anniversary Edition (cloud, console, PC)

  • Hearts of Iron IV (PC)

  • Her Story (PC)

  • Umurangi Generation: Special Edition (cloud, console, PC)
