Has Xander Schauffele ever won a PGA Major before?

Despite being the No. 3 golfer in the world and placing in the top 10 in eight events already this season on the PGA Tour, Schauffele does not have a PGA Major title on his resume for his career.

On top of that, Schauffele is also on a winless drought of three years in PGA Tour events as he has not won an event since 2022 when he won the Genesis Scottish Open, Travelers Championship and Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Schauffele has positioned himself nicely heading into Sunday in ending that drought, as he shot an impressive 9-under-par of 62 total finish on Thursday in the opening round of the 2024 PGA Championship — which tied the major scoring record along with the record for the lowest round in PGA Championship history. He followed up that historic showing with back-to-back 3-under par performances the last two days.

"Not winning makes you want to win more, as weird as that is,” Schauffele said after his round on Thursday. “For me, at least, I react to it, and I want it more and more and more, and it makes me want to work harder and harder and harder."

If Schauffele can outlast Morikawa on Sunday for his first Wanamaker Trophy, he will become the first golfer since Morikawa in 2020 to win his first PGA Major title at the PGA Championship.

Xander Schauffele PGA major finishes

Schauffele's best finish at the PGA Championship came in 2020 when he finished tied for 10th. He has finished as the runner-up twice, coming in the 2018 Open Championship and then in the 2019 rendition of The Masters.
