‘Worth the wait’: Mayoral candidate Kathryn Garcia urges patience as NYC officials tally votes

New York City mayoral wannabe Kathryn Garcia urged New Yorkers on Wednesday to stay patient as election officials start the arduous process of tallying votes.
Even though an unofficial initial count shows Garcia in third place, the former sanitation commissioner suggested there’s plenty of time for her to win the race for Gracie Mansion.
“Counting the Ranked Choice Votes will take time,” Garcia tweeted. “But it’s worth the wait because this process expands your vote and your voice.”
Garcia, who briefly led some polls of the crowded race after winning key endorsements, didn’t mention either frontrunner Eric Adams or second-place candidate Maya Wiley.

Her supporters hold out hope that her controversial, last-minute campaign alliance with businessman Andrew Yang — who conceded Tuesday night — might give her a windfall of support from those who picked Yang as their No. 1 choice.
Garcia has so far performed strongly in Manhattan and affluent areas of the outer boroughs. But she appears to be falling behind the other front-runners in Black and Latino neighborhoods.
