Some of the world’s best chefs will host Miami Art Week dinners. Here’s how to get a seat

Art Basel draws some of the best artists in the world to Miami for one weekend in December, and now it’s doing the same for some of the world’s best chefs.

Four top chefs, including the owner of the one-time best restaurant in the world, Massimo Bottura, are putting on intimate pop-up dinners the week of Art Basel. The dinners, a collaboration between American Express and the online reservation platform Resy, will be set in a Design District gallery space designed by California artist Phillip K. Smith III to be immersive.

As with everything related to Art Basel, it comes at a premium. Each dinner costs $350 a person. And the only way to snag a reservation is to add an American Express card with Global Dining Access (like an AMEX Platinum with a $700 annual fee) to your Resy profile.

In addition, several top Miami restaurants, including Cote, Joe’s Stone Crab and Mandolin Aegean Bistro will offer dinners exclusive to the high-end Global Dining Access AMEX users.

Bottura, whose restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena was once hailed as the best in the world, will host the opening night dinner on Nov. 29. The space is highlighted by the Smith artwork “Garden of Reflections,” which was commissioned for the event. Bottura is a regular pop-up chef in Miami, and even indulged in Cuban pastelitos, croquetas and papas rellenas during a 2018 visit.

“Art has always been my passion. Together with music, poetry, fast cars and motorcycles, and of course, food,” Bottura said in a statement. “When we are able to put together all these things and create an amazing event I am always in. It is the only way you can transmit emotions. I can’t wait to cook in Miami again.”

Smith’s gallery exhibit the next day will be free for Resy users who reserve a spot. Food and drinks will be provided by Michael Solomonov, chef and owner of restaurants such as Philadelphia’s Zahav, Dizengoff and Brooklyn’s Laser Wolf.

Missy Robbins, chef and owner of Lilia, Misi and Misipasta in Brooklyn hosts the Thursday dinner. And Mashama Bailey, owner of The Grey in Savannah, Ga., and Diner Bar in Austin, teams up for the final, Friday night event.

Reservations for the dinners will open Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. at a specific Resy website: https://blog.resy.com/2022/10/miami-dining-series/

Resy and American Express teamed up for a similarly exclusive event in the dog days of the pandemic. With the Resy Drive-Thru, diners arrived by car and wound through a colorful labyrinth of Miami-centric iconography. They remained in their cars as dishes by top chefs such as Michelle Bernstein and Timon Balloo were delivered on trays through the car windows at each station.
