Worker fatally struck by vehicle at Rochester gas station

A 51-year-old male worker was struck and fatally injured by a vehicle while working in a manhole at a gas station on Lyell Avenue in Rochester on Saturday.

According to Rochester police, officers responded to the gas station at 1291 Lyell Ave. around 11:40 a.m. On scene, officers found the worker who had been struck by a vehicle driven by a 45-year-old male city resident, said Rochester Police Lt. Michael Azzolina.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation, and there is no indication that drug or alcohol impairment was a factor, Azzolina said.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time. OSHA has been notified as part of the investigation.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
