Find out who won Daily Leader Athlete of the Week poll for April 15-20

The outcome needs to be close in any good competition. Such was the case this week as Madi Ely of Dwight’s softball team edged past Lexington-Ridgeview softball player Mackenzie Wesson to be voted the Pontiac Daily Leader's Athlete of the Week for the week of April 15-20.

Ely tossed a no-hitter in helping DTHS win two of three games on the week. She held Putnam County hitless while fanning 13. She had 25 strikeouts in three appearances in the circle. On offense, Ely had three hits and drove in three runs.

Ely brought in 3,019 votes, which was 46.52 percent of the overall total on the Athlete of the Week poll this week. Wesson was close behind with 2,754 votes (42.44 percent) for second. Mason Vandegraft was long-distant third at 286 (4.41 percent) votes. There were 6,489 votes cast.

The rest of the nominees were Dwight’s Mikayla Chambers and the boys’ track team, Pontiac’s girls’ track team and Elena Krause, Emma Palaschack of Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell and Lexington’s Drake Powell.

Each week we nominate a group of stars and you get to go and vote in our poll. The voting at pontiacdailyleader.com ends at noon each Friday. You can email Erich Murphy at emurphy@gannett.com by 9 a.m. each Monday to submit a potential nominee who may be placed on the ballot.
