Women's World Cup live tracker: USWNT draws Netherlands in rematch of 2019 final

The last time the U.S. women's national team and Netherlands met in the World Cup, USA scored a 2-0 win to secure the 2019 championship, its second straight. The rematch turned out to be a little more evenly matched.

Fresh off a 3-0 win over Vietnam on Friday, the USWNT drew the Netherlands 1-1 in their second game of the group stage, leaving Group E completely up for grabs heading into the final games. The Americans will face Portugal, who lost to the Netherlands 1-0, while the Dutch will face Vietnam.

The Netherlands struck first in the match, with a one-toucher from Jill Roord after a couple defensive misplays by the U.S. in the first half. The Americans looked out of sorts for the rest of the half, but regained their composure in the second half after subbing in Rose Lavelle for Savannah DeMelo.

Lindsey Horan delivered the equalizer in the 62nd minute with a header off a corner kick:

It wasn't the prettiest match for the USWNT, for the second match in the row, but the upshot is the team is very likely to reach the knockout stage. It also avoided its second ever loss in World Cup group play, with their shocker against Sweden in 2011 still standing as the lone defeat. A draw alone is rare, as this is only the country's fourth in World Cup history.
