Women-owned businesses to support this month and all year in York County

March marks Women’s History Month, including a special day commemorated March 8 that is celebrated internationally.

In York County, there are tons of ways to celebrate women, starting with supporting local, women-owned businesses. From coffee shops, to boutiques, to farms, to restaurants, to bookstores and so many more, there are almost too many to count.

Confidence Boutique in downtown York just marked its fifth anniversary.

Since childhood, Ty’lea Adore has had an affinity for fashion, and for beauty accessories. She opened her business in 2019 as a “one-stop shop” with one goal in mind: to make others look good, feel good, and leave feeling more confident than when they walked in.

“You walk through these doors, you’re definitely leaving with confidence,” she said.

Adore is one of several female-owned boutiques in York, also including Revolt Style Studio, My Girlfriend’s Wardrobe, Gusa by Victoria and more.

She'd dreamed since childhood of living on a farm and found her way after reading “The Flower Farmer” by Lynn Bcynziski. In 2021, she turned her front yard into a flower garden, harvesting 10 different types of flowers. The rest was history.

Her half-acre farm now offers ranunculus along with snapdragon and poppies. The summer months will bring peonies, sunflowers, marigolds and more.

Though working with Mother Nature is no easy task, Baker said seeing the joy in people’s faces when they see her flowers makes it worth it.
