If you spend enough time online, you've likely come across some hilarious self-checkout memes. In the social media posts, shoppers joke about scanning a banana instead of a TV, or even a pack of gum instead of a laptop. Maybe you've even scanned the cheap iceberg lettuce instead of the fancy microgreens by "accident"?

Well, it was only a matter of time before a professional self-checkout bandit surfaced.

That thief would be none other than 43-year-old Aziza Graves. The Northern California woman is accused of stealing nearly $60,000 worth of items from a single San Francisco Target. She stole from the store 120 times within just one year.

How exactly did Graves sneak away with such an impressive haul? It turns out that she would scan her items at self-checkout and then insert a single coin or bill before leaving the store. After committing the heist, she would then go on to sell her items at UN Plaza in San Francisco.

USA Today reports that Graves is facing one felony count of grand theft and a staggering 52 misdemeanor counts of petty theft. When she's sentenced later this month, she could receive more than three years in prison.

And for anyone considering pulling a similar move at self-checkout, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins offered a stern warning.

"These crimes demand accountability and we need to send the message to others who engage in open and brash thefts that, with the support of our local law enforcement partners, our office will continue to pursue and prosecute those involved," said Jenkins.
