If you're looking for a sign to ignore your groceries and order delivery instead, here it is: 25-year-old Hannah Bullerman got engaged to her Grubhub delivery driver after a chance encounter (an order of wings and fried pickles) brought them together. And now they're planning their upcoming wedding.

"It was so unlike me. I still can't believe I did it," Bullerman told People Magazine, referring to the "bold" flirty text she sent her now-fiancé, Alec Hoffman. "But it was just a visceral feeling in my stomach. He just had very kind eyes."

"My friend told me you can’t just wait for someone to come to you," the groom-to-be said. "Well, now I’ve got a great woman."

The couple met two years ago when Bullerman went home sick from work with a migraine and stumbled across a 20 percent off coupon for delivery. "I love a good coupon," she joked. Hannah placed the order for fried pickles, chicken wings, and apple sauce—only for her food and future husband to show up at the door.

Bullerman admits she was "kind of stalking the driver's moves on the app" and figured he'd drop off the order in her lobby. However, when he began calling her phone, she decided to trudge downstairs to receive it for herself.

"I looked kind of grubby and gross and thought, shoot, he wants to give it to me in person," Bullerman said. "I’m walking down the stairs and I see his face and was like, 'Oh my gosh, he’s cute!'"

While she thanked him and ran back up to her apartment, Bullerman couldn't get those kind eyes out of her mind.

"I was like, should I text him? I have his number. I didn’t want to come off creepy or really aggressive," she recalled. "But I wanted it to be known that, hey, I would be interested in maybe going on a date or whatever."

She shot her shot and wrote, "I hope you have a day as nice as your face." While Hoffman admitted he was a little caught off guard by "this chick hitting on me," he wrote back—and good thing he did. "I just said, 'Hope my service was 10 out of 10' and throwing in cheesy jokes so she knows that's who I am."

"She took the reins and good on her for that," Hoffman added. "Nice and bold."

The pair went to a sports bar and bowling for their first date, and the rest was history. "It was love at first sight for me," Bullerman said. The engaged couple later went on The Drew Barrymore Show and scored a honeymoon in Fiji while Grubhub also offered a $5,000 donation for their May 2025 wedding.

"Send that risky text, but don’t look too hard. I think people try too hard to find the right one," Hoffman added. "At least in my case, the right one will come when you’re least expecting it."
