This Woman Frantically Interrupted a Wedding Reception When Taylor Swift Played "Dear John" — in Another State

If petty little things like life milestones of friends take precedence over vital things like real-time updates and reactions to Taylor Swift's surprise songs on the Eras Tour, then at least one woman is officially out-Swiftie-ing (

That woman is Hilary Stein and the main thing you need to know about her is that she is ICONIC and deserves so many more TikTok followers than she currently has. Well, that and the fact that she is the kind of human who follows her instincts full-speed when, for example, she learns that Taylor Swift is playing "Dear John" several states away from her and she needs to react to that information and if she happens to be at a friend's wedding reception when that gloriously frantic reaction happens, so be it.

Thankfully, because she was at an actual, in-full-swing wedding reception, someone (thanks, Hilary's friend Crystal!) happened to be in the middle of filming a video at the moment when Hilary barreled out of the bathroom she was hiding in while attempting to live stream the surprise songs Taylor was playing halfway across the country (Hilary/the wedding reception were in Southern California and Taylor was performing in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the time) to let everyone know that "Dear John" was being performed live on stage at that very minute. And as proof that Hilary had no qualms about that life choice even upon reflection, she personally uploaded the video to TikTok.

Everything about the moment/video is perfection. There's Hilary's entrance, which is best described as "if the stampede from the 1995 Jumanji were reenacted by one very excited person." There's the fact that "Shake It Off" is playing at the reception, meaning she's interrupting Swift with more Swift. There's the urgency with which she shares the news, like a Taylor Swift-themed Paul Revere or medieval town crier announcing that the prince is having a ball (or whatever real town criers would have announced). There's every look on her friend's face (which cycles from concern to surprise to shared joy at an impressive rate). There's every look on Hilary's face (no one has ever been as excited about anything I've done in my life as she is about a song playing at a concert she isn't even at). Words honestly can't do it justice:

Hilary told Cosmopolitan.com that she's *pretty sure* the bride and groom didn't notice her "Dear John" freakout, but it's hard to imagine they'd be too surprised if they had, since Hilary wears her Taylor fandom proudly for all to see—like, the fact that she's already seen the Eras Tour five times ( "and actually all face value tickets, I refuse to pay resale prices," which is a feat worth flexing about in and of itself, considering what a debacle the Eras Tour ticket sale process was).

"Surprise songs are just such fun moments—where the entire fandom on social media is all online freaking out together together. I can’t describe why we do it. Taylor does so many only fan-understood things during the shows—it’s just so fun to be a part of," she said of the surprise song hype before adding, "Non-Swiftie friends definitely think I’m silly, but all my Swiftie friends are supportive. Any of my true Swiftie stans are to my level, if not more!"

I would very much like links to videos that illustrate the "More Stan than Hilary" tier of Swifties, pls.
