Woman fatally shot inside house in Hamlin; man in critical condition

A woman was killed and a man was injured at a Hamlin home on Thursday afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency responders were called to the 1300 block of Monroe-Orleans County Line Road in Hamlin around 2:25 p.m. to investigate the death of a woman, deputies said.

Deputies at an evening news conference said that the woman was fatally shot inside the house and that "another member of the household" has suffered a serious injury and was taken to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The identities and ages of the woman and man were not released, pending notification of family, deputies said.

Deputies said they are investigating what led to the fatal incident, which they described as an "isolated incident." Deputies did not clarify the relationship between the man and woman or what sort of injuries the man suffered.

A portion of Monroe-Orleans County Line Road, between Morton and Sands roads, remains closed Thursday evening as deputies investigate at the scene.
