Woman dies after being attacked by patient at Merit Health hospital
Jackson police said a man faces a murder charge after he allegedly assaulted and killed a woman at Merit Health Hospital.
According to a press release, the incident occurred Tuesday on the sixth floor of the hospital where both individuals were receiving treatment.
According to police, hospital officials said the unidentified male patient was experiencing a "psychiatric episode" when he attacked the unidentified female patient.
The press release states the suspect and victim did not know one another prior to the incident.
Police said the victim was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
This incident is under investigation.
