A Georgia woman is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from a grocery store using fake refunds, deputies told news outlets.

The 47-year-old was charged with theft in connection with the nearly year-long scheme, WSB-TV reported, citing a warrant from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said she took $230,390 from the GMC Value Mart in Rome from March 2023 until March 2024, according to Coosa Valley News. The store sells fresh meat, produce and groceries.

The woman made phony refund transactions to hide the missing money, WRGA reported, citing deputies.

She was arrested and taken to jail, authorities told news outlets.

McClatchy News reached out to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for more information on Friday, April 5, and was awaiting a response.

Rome is about a 70-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
