WNC top performers from Week 3 of spring sports: Polk County's Gunnar Alm hits two home runs

Here are the WNC athletes who have had big performances this week in spring sports.

Tuesday

Baseball

Carter Burnette, Asheville High: Burnette struck out nine and walked two over four innings in a 5-4 win over Erwin. He allowed two hits and didn't give up an earned run.

Wilkin Lurie, Asheville High: Lurie homered in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game.

Tae Trantham, Asheville High: Trantham singled in the bottom of the seventh, driving in the game-winning run against Erwin. He finished the day 2-for-4.

Carson Wallace, Erwin: Wallace went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a double, but Asheville High walked off the Warriors, 5-4. He also stole two bases.

Chance Penland, Madison: Penland drove in the winning run in a 15-14 victory over Mitchell. He went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs.

AJ Mackey, Mitchell: The freshman was 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored in a 15-14 loss to Madison.

Owen Riddle, Mitchell: Riddle drove in three runs and went 3-for-5, scoring twice.

Adam Cook, Murphy: Cook drove in three runs in a 2-for-4 day at the plate, leading Murphy to a 17-1 win over Cherokee.

Cameron Clem, Murphy: The freshman drove in three runs and scored three more.

Gunnar Alm, Polk County: Alm had a record-setting day, hitting two home runs and driving in six while going 3-for-4 at the plate. He tied his own record for home runs in a game and matched the program record with 11 total bases in a 13-3 win over Hendersonville.

Bryson Moseman, Reynolds: Moseman doubled and drove in three runs, finishing the day 2-for-4 in an 8-0 win over McDowell.

Jesse Danner, Reynolds: Danner threw a complete game shutout, striking out nine and allowing two hits.

Evan Conner, Tuscola: Conner was 3-for-5 at the plate, driving in three runs and doubling twice in a 10-1 victory over Franklin.

Jed West, Tuscola: The senior went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Girls soccer

Lily Rogers, Brevard: Rogers tallied a hat trick and tacked on two assists in a 9-1 win over R-S Central.

Greyson Motley, Brevard: Motley added a hat trick herself, assisting on one more goal in the win.

Isabella Stafford, Carolina Day: Stafford scored both goals in the Wildcats' 2-1 win over University Christian.

Amber Hernandez, Madison: Hernandez had a strong night for the Patriots, recording four goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Mitchell.

Softball

Claire Wilson, Brevard: Wilson went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. R-S Central scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Blue Devils 4-3.

Amila Lossie, Cherokee: Lossie hit a grand slam to give the Braves the lead over Murphy, but the Bulldogs came back to win 13-11.

Emma Payne, Enka: Payne hit a three-run home run in the third inning of Enka's 18-1 win over Erwin. She finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Averi Coggins, Enka: Coggins drove in three runs and doubled twice in a 2-for-4 day.

Karly Presnell, Enka: Presnell struck out seven, allowed four hits and gave up one run over six innings.

Carrie Gunter, Madison: Gunter had a perfect 3-for-3 night with four RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored in the Patriots' 16-0 win over Mitchell. She also threw a three-inning no-hitter in the mercy rule win, striking out seven.

Hailey Griffin, Madison: Griffin homered and drove in four runs in the victory.

Paisley Johnson, Murphy: Johnson homered twice and drove in four runs in a 13-11 win over Cherokee. In the circle, she struck out seven batters and allowed one earned run in 6.1 innings.

Autumn Edmonds, Reynolds: Edmonds went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, leading the Rockets to a 5-3 win over North Buncombe.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: Shuler hit a home run and drove in two in a 7-2 win over Swain County. She also doubled and scored three runs.

Sophie Roberts, Robbinsville: Roberts homered and drove in two runs in a 2-for-4 day at the plate.

Abby McCall, Rosman: McCall went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs in a 19-6 win over Avery County.

Monday

Baseball

AJ Hernandez, Carolina Day: Hernandez doubled and drove in three runs, leading the charge in a 12-11 win over Invest Collegiate Imagine.

Will Walker, Christ School: Walker went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double in Christ School's 10-0 win over Clearwater (Florida).

Will Bolyard, Hendersonville: Bolyard drove in three runs and scored twice in a 13-0 win over Smoky Mountain.

Rowan Ellis, Swain County: Ellis went 2-for-3 and walked an additional three times, scoring four runs and driving in one in the Maroon Devils' 19-7 win over Robbinsville.

Softball

Kendall Rumans, Franklin: Rumans was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in an 8-3 win over Murphy.

Ashlyn McConnell, Franklin: McConnell went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Autumn Edmonds, Reynolds: Edmonds was 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in four runs and leading the Rockets to a 15-8 win over Tuscola.

Trinity Poland, Reynolds: Poland drove in three runs and scored three more in a 2-for-4 day at the dish.
