WNC spring sports top performers from Week 13, including track and field state champs

Here are the Western North Carolina athletes who had top performances this week in spring sports.

Tuesday

Baseball

Caden Davidson, Roberson: Davidson drove in four runs in a 2-for-4 day at the plate, lifting the Rams' offense to a 13-0 run-rule win in Game 1 of the 4A West Regional finals against Charlotte Catholic.

Micah Simpson, Roberson: Simpson hit a home run to right field and drove home three runs.

Evan Conner, Tuscola: Conner hit a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to get the Mountaineers on the board in a 7-4 win over East Rowan in Game 1 of the 3A West Regional finals.

Bo West, Tuscola: West drove in the go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh, doubling home two RBIs.

Jed West, Tuscola: West followed his brother's double with a two-RBI base hit of his own to secure the Mountaineers' win.

Monday

Track and Field

Logan Shuler, Andrews: Shuler's high jump mark of 6 feet, 6 inches, earned him the 1A state championship.

Maddy Barrett, Avery County: Barrett's 300-meter hurdles time of 44.11 helped her take the 1A state championship.

Abby Burleson, Avery County: Burleson won the pole vault at the state championship meet with a mark of 11 feet, 3 inches.

Dvdaya Swimmer, Cherokee: Swimmer finished second in the 800-meter run at the 1A state championship with a time of 2:20.25.

Graham Cannon, Enka: Cannon took the state title in shotput at the 3A state championships with a throw of 53 feet, 11.75 inches.

Aaron Jennings, Franklin: Jennings took second place in the 3A state championship in the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 6 inches.

Boston Stringer, Franklin: Stringer took second place at the 3A state championship in pole vault with a mark of 11 feet.

Taylor McClure, Hayesville: McClure's shotput throw crossed 50 feet, the second-best mark at the 1A state championships.

Gus Simmons, Reynolds: Simmons earned a third-place finish at the 3A state championship with a time of 1:55.23 in the 800-meter run.

Zoie Shuler, Robbinsville: Shuler claimed state titles in both the high jump and the triple jump with marks of 5 feet, 4 inches and 37 feet, 1.75 inches, respectively. The titles were the 10th and 11th of her career. She also finished second in the long jump by less than an inch.

Claire Barlow, Robbinsville: Barlow finished second in the triple jump behind her teammate.

Josiah Glaspie, Swain County: Glaspie anchored the 1,600-meter relay, which the Maroon Devils won to clinch their first 1A boys track and field state title. He also finished third in the 400-meter dash.

Nse Uffort, Swain County: Uffort won the 1A state shotput title with a state meet record throw of 61 feet, 9.5 inches, more than 11 feet further than the second-place finisher. He also finished third in discus.

Carl Baird, Swain County: Bard finished in second place at the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:36.07.

Annie Lewis, Swain County: Lewis took the 1A state title in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:14.97. She helped the Maroon Devils win their fourth consecutive 1A NCHSAA team track and field state championship. She also helped Swain County take first in the 3,200-meter relay.

Arizona Blankenship, Swain County: Blankenship dominated the long distance events, claiming the state title in both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run.

Angelina Lomelli, Swain County: Lomelli finished right behind her teammate in the 1,600-meter run, taking second place. She finished third in the 3,200-meter run.

Alden Thomas, Swain County: Thomas led a trio of Maroon Devils in the top four of the pole vault, taking second place with a mark of 10 feet.

2A, 4A, NCISAA TRACK STATE CHAMPS: Here are the top performers from Week 12 of WNC spring sports

Hudson Rice, West Henderson: Rick finished in third place in the 1,600-meter run at the boys 3A state championship with a time of 4:17.93.

Tayman Howell, West Henderson: Howell's 110-meter hurdles time of 14.18 was good for second place. He also took second place in the 300-meter hurdles – his 37.94 time was half a second behind first.

Emma Hall, West Henderson: Hall won the state title in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.51 seconds at the 3A state championship. She also finished in second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.36 – just .02 seconds behind first.

Girls soccer

Sadie Hambright, Asheville High: Hambright scored a goal to help the Cougars knock off Charlotte Catholic, 2-1, to reach the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs.

Ashley Armstrong, Asheville High: Armstrong scored the second goal to help Asheville secure the win.

Charley Goodwin, Brevard: Goodwin tallied a brace, helping the Blue Devils to a 2-2 (3-1) shootout victory over West Davidson in the third round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs.

Reagan Adams, Hendersonville: Adams scored the opening goal in a 3-0 shutout win over Owen, propelling the Bearcats to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs.

Cate Brown, Polk County: Brown saved all seven shots she faced to preserve a shutout for the Wolverines in a 2-0 win over Thomas Jefferson to advance to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs.

Kylie Lewis, Polk County: Lewis scored her first goal of the season to cap off Polk County's victory.
