Wish star Ariana DeBose has praised her co-star Chris Pine for his "incredible" singing.

The West Side Story and Star Trek actors voice the parts of Asha and King Magnifico, respectively, in the new Disney animation.

The movie follows Asha after her wishes are answered by a cosmic force called Star, and she must confront Pine's villainous character to save her kingdom.

As part of their roles, the pair get to show off their singing chops, and while chatting to Digital Spy, DeBose explained that her co-star "may not realise the full depth of his talent".

“Oh, I’ve loved Chris Pine forever," she admitted.

"And I find that statement very funny, because Chris Pine sang with the likes of Barbra Streisand, and I was like: I make you nervous? You sang with Barbra. Forgive me – Miss Streisand.

"He is incredible," DeBose added. "I think Chris is one of those multi talented actors who may not realise the full depth of his talent, because he is quite the vocalist and I think he makes for a delicious villain.

"A true Disney villain. He dove in.

"We actually didn’t get to record in the studio together, but we did have the chance to come together to promote the film, and spending time with him, he’s such a gentleman, he’s a great guy. Again, I’m a fan.”

Ahead of Wish's release later this week, the movie has attracted largely mixed reviews, currently standing at 49% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Many have praised the animation style, though others suggested it "recycled" moments.

In Digital Spy's three-star verdict, we said that it is "unlikely Wish will stick with audiences as deeply as other recent triumphs like Encanto". However, we added: "It's an enjoyable, short-and-sweet watch that makes a decent addition to Disney's catalogue."

Wish is arriving in cinemas on November 24.
