Wisconsin women's basketball assistant Tiffany Morton named West Alabama head coach

MADISON – As Marisa Moseley goes about the business of building her 2024-25 roster, the Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball coach has another task on her plate.

She is looking for a new assistant coach.

Tiffany Morton, who spent one season with UW, is becoming the head coach at West Alabama, the school announced Saturday. The Beloit native will take over a Division II program in Livingston, Alabama, that went 6-22 this past season.

Her start date is May 1.

“Throughout the process, it was apparent to everyone involved that Tiffany is the right person to lead our women's program forward," West Alabama interim director of athletics Brett Gilliland said in a news release. "Tiffany fits the values of who we are as an athletic department and university. She brings a wealth of experience from every level of college basketball to our program.”

Morton is the third Moseley assistant coach to get a head coaching job during Moseley three-year run at Wisconsin.

Scott Merritt, a former Marquette University standout who worked with Moseley from 2021-23, took over Gardner Webb, a Division I program in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. His team went 6-24 this past season.

Kate Barnosky, who worked with Moseley for a five-year run that spanned Boston University and UW, took over at Division III Babson College just outside of Boston in August. The Beavers went 15-13 this season.

Morton worked with the Badgers post players and helped Serah Williams claim all-Big Ten distinction and defensive player of the year from the media.

Morton had coaching stints at Rice, Mercer, Wagner, LSU and Montevallo before arriving at Wisconsin. She played at UW-Whitewater for three seasons after starting her career at UW-Milwaukee.

"I am truly honored to work for this amazing institution and excited for the opportunity to lead the University of West Alabama Women's Basketball program," Morton said in the release."I will strive daily to elevate the young women in this program not only to be winners on the court, but to be winners in life! It's a GREAT day to be a Tiger! Go Tigers!!"
