MANITOWOC — Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry recently acquired ATEK Metal Technologies, based in New Hampton, Iowa.

The acquisition will expand WAF’s operations by deepening its reach into key markets, including motorsports, transportation, agriculture and the medical industry, a news release said.

“We’re excited about this acquisition and are feeling a bit nostalgic as we welcome ATEK to the WAF family,” foundry CEO Sachin Shivaram said in a release.

The nostalgic feeling is because Harley-Davidson, which has its headquarters in Milwaukee, was one of WAF’s customers in the early 1900s. With the ATEK merger, the iconic Wisconsin company will once again be a foundry customer.

ATEK specializes in low-pressure permanent mold castings and tilt-pour molding, and was family owned before the sale. The company has 220 workers.

“Not only is the team at ATEK skilled and dedicated, but the products it makes complement our current offerings, making this a natural fit,” Shivaram said in the release.

“Ultimately, we are focused on establishing the northern Midwest as the place for high-level aluminum castings,” Shivaram said.

The acquisition is the fourth for WAF in recent years. The company also bought DEE Inc., in Crookston, Minnesota; Manitowoc Pattern & Machining in Manitowoc; and Wabash Castings in Wabash, Indiana.
