While it’s expected to be a clear day for the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade, snow and other precipitation will roll in overnight Wednesday across the metro area and continue into the day Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Around 7 or 8 p.m. Wednesday at the earliest, a rain-snow mix will move into the Kansas City area, bringing precipitation including rain, freezing rain, sleet and ice pellets that will eventually shift to snowfall overnight, said Brent Pesel, a meteorologist with the NWS in Kansas City.

Snow totals will vary across the city. The south side of the metro could see around an inch of snow or less, while residents in northern areas of city could get between two and four inches of snow. Downtown Kansas City could see up to two inches of snow.

Temperatures will dip into the low 20s overnight and stay around 29 to 30 degrees through Thursday. Wind gusts between 30 and 35 mph will also create low visibility for drivers, even in areas with less snowfall.

With freezing rain also expected Wednesday night, Pesel said surfaces like sidewalks, overpasses, bridges and lesser traveled roads may be icy. Drivers should add extra time to their commute, be patient and leave more space between vehicles.
