The winter storm wreaking havoc on the West and upper Midwest will turn into rain in Myrtle Beach, according to the National Weather Service.

“We don’t have to worry about winter weather right now at all. Just some rain and maybe an isolated shower storm,” said Rachel Zouzias, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Wilmington, NC.

The National Weather Service’s winter forecast for Horry County predicts rain moving in around midnight and lasting until 7 p.m. Thursday. Temperatures will rise overnight into the 60s.

This rain is part of the larger winter storm system, dubbed Winter Storm Diaz by The Weather Channel. While areas north of Virginia are expecting winter weather conditions, Virginia and states to the south are predicted to get only rain.

Since Tuesday, the winter storm has been sweeping across the West and Midwest and is expected to reach New England by Thursday night. Louisiana and Texas experienced tornadoes caused by the system on Tuesday.
