Winter all-area series: Top Augusta-area high school girls basketball players for 2023-24
It was another high school basketball season for the ages.
Josey nearly pulled off its first Georgia High School Association Class 2A state championship appearance since winning it all in 2021, making it out of a tough Region 4-AA with three teams that had the ability to make it to Macon. While the Lady Eagles fell to Mt. Paran Christian, it did little to disprove what the CSRA has been cooking on the hardwood. North Augusta, Butler, Cross Creek, Lakeside and Westminster Schools of Augusta each put together impressive playoff runs, as well.
What stands out here, besides the ridiculous amount of senior talent we’re about to lose to graduation, is the amount of underclassmen contributors on Augusta’s top teams. There are plenty of names we’ve grown to know and love that still have two or three years of high school ball in front of them. The annual trips to Macon still seem to be very much in play.
With all that said, here are the top Augusta-area girls high school basketball players for the 2023-24 season.

Player of the year
Micheala Bogans, Cross Creek
Bogans proved once again why she has been in Kim Schlein's starting lineup since she was a freshman. The senior averaged nearly 17 points per game, six rebounds, five assists and five steams per game this season, leading the Lady Backs to the GHSA Class 3A elite eight for the third-straight year since winning a state title as a freshman. The Morgan State commit will graduate as arguably the best player in program history after Jordyn Dorsey.
