Winnie the Pooh horror movie lands cinema release in 2023
A bloodthirsty Winnie the Pooh is making his way to cinemas as the distribution rights to a slasher inspired by AA Milne's story have been acquired.
Fathom Events will distribute Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey in the US, where the film will be in cinemas for one day only on February 15, 2023. Altitude is handling distribution in the UK, with a release date yet to be announced, while other territories are also planning theatrical releases (via The Hollywood Reporter).
From director Rhys Frake-Waterfield, this low-budget horror has become an internet sensation since its buzzworthy, disturbing stills and trailer started circulating on social media a few months back.

In May, horror lovers were first alerted of the existence of a giant, killer Winnie the Pooh, out for blood with his loyal sidekick Piglet. The two go feral when Christopher Robin abandons them, later embarking on a murder spree through the Hundred Acre Wood.
The filmmaker had the idea for Blood and Honey after learning that Milne's story had entered the public domain in January this year, 95 years after its publication.
Since news of the film first hit social media, Blood and Honey benefited from word-of-mouth, leading to additional shoots and several distribution deals.

Frake-Waterfield is now reportedly planning a follow-up in the saga of killer Winnie, as well as a creepy take on another children's literature classic, Peter Pan. His Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare would make a nice double bill with Blood and Honey for sure.
And speaking of double bills, Winnie the Pooh's very own horror would also go hand in hand with Grinch slasher The Mean One, set to stream for free in the US on December 15. Details of the platform(s) and how UK viewers will be able to access this little festive treat are yet to be confirmed.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey will be in US cinemas on February 15, 2023. A UK release date is TBA.
