Here is the winner of the Rockford Register Star's Athlete of the Week poll for April 8-12

It was another spring season battle, and it's time to find out who won the Rockford Register Star high school Athlete of the Week poll for April 8-12.

Orangeville's softball star Laney Holland earned almost 47 percent of the votes and pulled away down the stretch. Winnebago softball player Vern Gilley-Amdal took second with almost 33 percent of the vote, but this was Holland's week.

So was the week before, at least it was when she pitched all 14 innings of a doubleheader sweep of Lena Winslow. She threw a two-hitter in Game 1 and followed that up with a complete-game 7-5 victory.

Other nominees were: Harlem's Jackson Heidemann; Guilford's Malia Welch; Auburn's Alyssa Lowry and Conner Hawkins; Rochelle's Lauren Dye; North Boone's Dani Goodman; Lena-Winslow's Luke Madigan; North Boone's Cami Carter; and Milledgeville's Olivia Wooden.
