Online ordering is the go-to option for families these days, with most U.S. grocery chains offering the convenience of doorstep delivery. Now, Winn-Dixie is jumping on the bandwagon.

For $9, customers can order their groceries online or on the Winn-Dixie app and have them delivered to their home in two hours, according to parent company Southeastern Grocers.

The company is also home to Harveys Supermarket and Fresco y Más stores.

The new online ordering and delivery option, announced Wednesday, Oct. 26, is available at more than 375 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores in five states: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. For a limited time, customers who spend $35 or more in groceries will receive free delivery.

DoorDash Drive, the food delivery service’s white label platform, will fulfill all delivery orders for Winn-Dixie, according to a news release. Customers can place online orders directly on the grocery store’s website.

The change comes as more consumers opt for online ordering and other contactless alternatives that emerged as at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The trend is seemingly here to stay with nearly 50 percent of polled shoppers saying they purchase groceries online at least once a week, according to a 2021 report by McKinsey & Company.

E-commerce is expected to see continued growth, reaching 14% to 18% of total U.S. grocery sales in the next three years, the management firm predicted.

“This innovative online shopping feature is an extension of shopping our local stores, offering the same promotions and savings they will find in stores,” Andrew Nadin, chief customer and digital officer for Southeastern Grocers, said in a statement.

Curbside pickup is expected to roll out at Winn-Dixie, Harveys Supermarket and Fresco y Más stores early next year, the company said.
