Wilmington-area high school sports top performers for May 6-11

The spring high school sports postseason is intensifying, leaving us with only a handful of area teams remaining.

Ashley, Hoggard and Laney picked up wins as the baseball playoffs started Tuesday.

Topsail advanced to the state quarterfinals for the second straight year in girls lacrosse by defeating Green Hope Tuesday. The Pirates will host Chapel Hill on Friday.

Here are the best performances from around the Wilmington area for the week of May 6-11.

Wednesday

Boys tennis

Logan Tamadon, Jr., Hoggard: Tamadon battled to defeat Enloe's Michael Boykin in three sets at No. 4 singles, tying the match up 2-2. Hoggard went on to win 5-2.

Tuesday

Baseball

Quinn Bentley, Jr., Ashley: Bentley went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of doubles as the Screaming Eagles defeated Pine Forest 10-0.

Softball

Macey Ciamillo, Jr., Hoggard: Ciamillo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles while throwing seven strikeouts in the Vikings 5-2 win over Holly Springs.

Kina Davis, Jr., South Brunswick: Davis threw 17 strikeouts in seven innings as the Cougars defeated Lee County 9-0.

Lauren Hall, Soph., Trask: Hall went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Titans defeated St. Pauls 13-7.

Girls lacrosse

Lillian Austin, Sr., Topsail: Austin scored five goals as the Pirates defeated Green Hope in the third round of the NCHSAA 4A East state playoffs.

Melina Toronto, Sr., Topsail: Toronto found the back of the net five times as she scored her 100th career goal in the win.

Boys lacrosse

Anthony Blackburn, Jr., Ashley: Blackburn scored three goals and delivered one assist as Ashley defeated Broughton 9-5 to advance to the fourth round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history.

Monday

Girls soccer

Ellis Kelly, Jr., Hoggard: Kelly scored four goals as the Vikings defeated South Brunswick 7-0.

Avery Barr, Sr., Hoggard: Barr scored twice in the win.

Olivia Duleba, Jr., Laney: Duleba scored twice and assisted one goal as Laney defeated New Hanover 6-0.

Boys golf

Dylan Lewis, Jr., Hoggard: Lewis shot 68 in Monday's 4A East Regional in Durham, advancing to next week's state championship.

Maddux Cook, Jr., Hoggard: Cook also shot 68 at the event.
