What to do in Wichita this weekend: Music festival, Symphony show, block party and more

On the bill for Wichita this weekend: a music fest honoring a late Wichitan, a downtown block party, a uniquely presented concert by the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, and a melodrama about what might happen when Beanie Babies finally take their revenge.

Rudy Love Music Fest

6 p.m. Friday, Wave, 650 E. Second St.

The Rudy Love Music Festival, a concert meant to celebrate the life of late Wichita artist Rudy Love, is set for Friday at the Wave venue. Doors open at 4 p.m., and people can peruse vendor booths and see a Rudy Love memorial exhibit. The music lasts from 6 to 11 p.m., and included in the lineup will be Rudy Love Jr., The Love Family Band, KEO and Them, and more. General admission tickets are $20 for adults or $10 for children ages 6-10. Seated tickets are $50. All are available at waveict.com.

Kurtis Conner live

7 p.m. Friday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

YouTuber and former Vine star Kurtis Conner will be in Wichita on Friday as a part of his 2022 stand-up comedy tour. Conner is best known for his YouTube content where he creates all kinds of comedy videos and has acquired a following of more than 4 million subscribers. He also has his own podcast called “Very Really Good.” The show is at 7 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets range from $40 to $85 and can be purchased at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

‘Revenge of the Beanie Babies’

Friday-Sept. 3, Mosley Street Melodrama, 234 N. Mosley

Mosley Street Melodrama is opening a new show this weekend — a 1990s melodrama called “Revenge of the Beanie Babies.” The first shows are Friday and Saturday and future shows happen Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 3. Friday and Saturday shows are at 6 p.m., and Sunday shows are at 10:30 a.m. Tickets for dinner and a show are $34-$38 and for the show only are $24-$28. They’re available at moselystreet.com

Symphony 360

7:30 p.m. Saturday, Century II Convention Hall

The Wichita Symphony Orchestra is putting on its second annual Symphony 360 show, which will allow audience members to experience the concert from different angles. The musicians will play from the center of the Century II Convention Hall while the audience members surround them. Music for the evening will include Adolphus Hailstork’s “Sonata De Chiesa,” Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Century II Convention Hall. Tickets are $40-$80, and a $10 student ticket also is available. Tickets can be purchased online at wichitasymphony.org.

Dizzy Wright raps

8 p.m. Saturday, TempleLive, 332 E. First St.

Rapper Dizzy Wright, best known for songs like “Killem Wit Kindness,” “Outlaws” and “Untouchable,” will perform at TempleLive on Saturday. Opening acts are XV, Sir Charles and Nick Gibbs. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $40 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com

ICT Block Party

3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Naftzger Park, 601 E. Douglas

The ICT Block Party is a Saturday event planned for Naftzger Park that will include a car show, a kids zone with face painting, music by DJ Cadence and more. The event, which lasts from 3 to 9 p.m., will also have a bar provided by Wave and several food trucks. Attendees will also be able to shop at the Merch Market that will feature businesses like Shade Lane Boutique, Sunflower Closet, Brooklyn Tees and more. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome — as are dogs.

Twilight Tunes at Botanica

6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Botanica, 701 Amidon

Botanica’s monthly Twilight Tunes on the Terrace concert series returns this week with music by Stimulus. Attendees can purchase cocktails, beer, wine or non-alcoholic beverages from The Bar on Demand as well as food from Molino’s Mexican Cuisine. Outside food and snacks are also allowed, but no outside alcohol will be permitted. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tickets are $12, $10 for Botanica members, and $6 for premium members. All tickets must be purchased at botanica.org. No tickets will be sold at the door.
