What to do in Wichita this weekend: James Taylor, Tunes + Tallgrass and more

Mid-July has arrived and brought with it concerts and other fun outdoor activities.

Here’s a look at some of the fun to be had this weekend in Wichita.

James Taylor returns

8 p.m. Saturday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman

Music star James Taylor has stopped at Wichita’s Intrust Bank Arena a couple of times over the years, and the 74-year-old singer will return again this weekend. Taylor, known for hits like “Carolina in My Mind” and “You’ve Got a Friend,” will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the arena with his All Star Band. Tickets are still available and are $63.50, $83.50 and $123.50 at www.selectaseat.com, by phone at 316-755-7328 and in person at the Select-A-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

Tunes + Tallgrass

6:30-10 p.m. Friday, Wichita Art Museum, 1400 Museum Blvd.

The Wichita Art Museum’s annual Tunes+ Tallgrass event returns on Friday and will include an outdoor screening of “The Wizard of Oz,” costume contests for people and their dogs, food trucks, a cash bar and live music by Sass Monkey. The event, a partnership between the museum, Tallgrass Film Festival and Music Theatre Wichita, is from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the museum’s Paula and Barry Downing Amphitheater in WAM’s Art Garden. Admission is free.

KEYN Summer Concert Series returns

Fridays through Aug. 12, Hartman Arena parking lot, 8151 N. Hartman Arena Drive, Park City

KEYN’s annual free outdoor summer concert series returns this week and will again take place in the parking lot of Hartman Arena. The concerts, featuring well-known local and regional acts, will happen every Friday through Aug. 12. Each week will feature a different band and different food trucks as well as drinks for purchase. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the concerts are from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. each week. The series starts on Friday with a show by King Midas. The Artichoke’s food truck will be there serving along with Face Stuffers, Cheesepanzee, Devour and the Southeast Carryout food truck. For a full schedule of shows, visit hartmanarena.com

Big & Rich hit the casino

7:30 p.m. Friday, Kansas Star Casino, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane

Country duo Big & Rich will perform on Friday at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane. The act, known for its big hit “Save A Horse (Ride a Cowboy),” will start their show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40-$120 and on sale at ticketmaster.com.

Aaron Lewis and The Stateliners

8 p.m. Saturday, The Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg

Onetime Staind lead singer Aaron Lewis will return to Wichita to perform on Saturday at The Cotillion with his band The Stateliners. The country show will start at 8 p.m., and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $49.50-$59.50 at thecotillion.com. Singer Tim Montana will open the show.
