What to do in Wichita this weekend: Ice Cube concert, three comedy shows, music festival

If you like to laugh, Wichita will have plenty to offer this weekend. Three big comedy shows are happening on three big stages on Saturday and Sunday.

Also on the calendar this weekend: The big West Fest concert at Intrust Bank Arena, a music festival at Wave and more.

West Fest in Wichita

7 p.m. Friday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman

Rapper and actor Ice Cube will perform in Wichita on Friday along with Cypress Hill for a concert called West Fest. The show also will include performances by Bone Thugs N Harmony and Ying Yang Twins. Doors to the concert will open at 6 p.m., and the show will start at 7 p.m. at Intrust Bank Arena. Tickets, which range from $69 to $200, are still available at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

People of the Plains at Cowtown

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.

Wichita’s Old Cowtown Museum is putting on its annual People of the Plains event on Saturday. It will feature reenactors portraying the mountain men, buffalo soldiers and Native Americans who populated and shaped the early plains as well as a gunfight, saloon girl performances and more. The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and regular museum admission applies: Adults are $9, seniors ages 62 and up are $8, youth ages 12-17 are $7, kids 6-11 are $6, and children 4 and under plus military members and their dependents, teachers and Cowtown members get in free.

Kansas is for Lovers festival

11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Wave, 650 E. Second

Platinum selling emo band Hawthorne Heights is bringing a music festival it curated called Kansas is for Lovers to Wichita on Saturday. The festival includes artists that band members grew up loving, loved performing with or like hanging out with. It will feature acts including The Wonder Years, Thursday, Laura Jane Grace, Hot Mulligan, Thick and several others. The indoor stage will feature local bands. The festival is from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday at Wave. Tickets range from $65 to $150 and can be purchased at waveict.com. For more information visit isforloversfestival.com.

Steve Trevino at Botanica

8 p.m. Saturday, Botanica, 701 Amidon

Comedian Steve Trevino, also known as “America’s Favorite Husband,” is performing at Botanica this weekend. His stand up show, which includes observations about fatherhood, being a husband and modern life, is at 8 p.m. Saturday on Botanica’s Grand Lawn. Guests should bring their own chairs and are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Concessions will be available. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday on the Grand Lawn. Tickets are $35 for members and $40 for non-members and can be purchased at botanica.org

Prolific Comedy at Century II

7 p.m. Sunday, Century II Concert Hall

Comedians Tommy Davidson and Red Grant will be in Wichita on Sunday to headline a show at Century II called The Prolific Comedy Series. Davidson has appeared in several television series including “In Living Color,” “Malcolm and Eddie” and “The Proud Family,” and Red Grant is a well-known stand-up comedian who has been featured in a number of television series and films. The show will also include comedian and actor Spanky Hayes. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Century II Concert Hall. Tickets range from $25 to $75 and can be purchased at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

Chris D’Elia at The Orpheum

7 p.m. Saturday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

The Orpheum stage also will host a comedy show this weekend when comedian Chris D’Elia brings his stand up tour to town. D’Elia has a popular podcast on iTunes called “Congratulations with Chris D’Elia” as well as three Netflix comedy specials. Doors for the show open at 6 p.m., and it starts at 7 p.m. Tickets, available to those 18 and over, are $49.50, $59.50 and $109.50 and can be purchased at selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-SEAT or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

New exhibit at WAM

Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd.

The Wichita Art Museum recently opened a new exhibit called “Power to the People: Prints from the Great War to the Cold War,” and it will be on display through New Year’s Eve. The exhibit features pieces that emerged from the Mexican Revolution that reflect on the political and social condition of Mexico in the early 20th century. It’s in the Paul Ross Gallery and the Scott and Carol Ritchie Gallery and can be seen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Admission for adults is $10, seniors ages 60 and up are $5, college students with identification are $3, and children under 5 years and Wichita Art Museum members are free. Admission on Saturdays is free for everyone.
