What to do in Wichita this weekend: Halloween fun, comedy, car show, concerts

Halloween is almost here, and Wichita is offering plenty of spooky fun and trick-or-treating events this weekend.

Not looking for a scare? The weekend calendar also includes concerts, comedy and even a car show.

Hay, Hooves and Halloween

2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.

Wichita’s Old Cowtown Museum is celebrating Halloween with the return of its annual event called Hay, Hooves and Halloween. It runs from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and will feature the headless horseman of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” coming to life and riding through Cowtown chasing Ichabod Crane. Visitors also will see zombie cowboys engaged in an undead gunfight, ghost hauntings and more. Costumes are encouraged, and candy will be distributed. Admission is $5, free for kids ages 4 and under and for members.

‘Hocus Pocus’ movie night

6-9 p.m. Friday, Bradley Fair Plaza, 1900 N. Rock Road

Bradley Fair, the shopping center at 21st and Rock Road, is wrapping up its fall family movie night series on Friday with a screening of 1993’s “Hocus Pocus,” which has received renewed interest this year with the release of a sequel. The movie will be shown outdoors on the plaza around 7 p.m., but the evening will start at 6 p.m. with crafts, snacks, face-painting and more. Several Bradley Fair retailers also will be there offering food, including Bakesale and Trader Joe’s. Tickets to the event are $5 for children (parents with kids are free), and proceeds go to ICT SOS. They’re available at the event or online at eventbrite.com

Boo at the Zoo

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 W. Zoo Blvd.

Boo at the Zoo, which is the Sedgwick County Zoo’s big Halloween event, is back for 2022 and it will happen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Attendees are invited to wear costumes, collect candy and participate in Halloween activities while visiting the animals. The event is free with regular zoo admission, which is $22 for adults, $17 for children 3-11 and seniors 62+, and free for members with member ID. Tickets purchased online at scz.org/visit#admission are discounted $2.

Queen of Clean Comedy

7 p.m. Friday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

Stand-up comedian Chonda Pierce, also known as the Queen of Clean Comedy, will arrive at Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre on Friday for a show during which she’ll channel her own life experiences. Pierce, an Emmy-nominated comedian who has been performing for more than a decade, also is an author, actress and television host. Her show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are $36.25, $43.75 and $64.25 at www.selectaseat.com, by calling 316-755-7328 or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.

Third Eye Blind at the casino

7:30 p.m. Saturday, Kansas Star Casino arena, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulvane

Rock band Third Eye Blind, known for hits like “Semi-Charmed Life” and “How’s it Going to Be,” will perform at the Kansas Star Casino’s arena on Saturday. Doors for the show open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the all-ages show are $40-$60 at ticketmaster.com

Car show at CII

10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Century II, 225 W. Douglas

The Midwest Super Show, a big car show featuring more than 300 lowriders and exotic luxury cars, hits Wichita’s Century II on Sunday. Tickets to the show, which lasts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., are $25 for adults 11 and over, $5 for youth ages 4 to 10 and $18 for seniors, members of the military and first responders and are available at selectaseat.com/midwest
