The McAfee city pool closed for the day on Tuesday after someone broke in overnight and caused extensive damage.

City spokesperson Megan Lovely said in an email that staff have put the estimated cost of damage at around $15,000.

“Vandals destroyed so much property inside the facility that staff is cleaning up today to make sure the pool is safe for our guests,” a Wichita Park and Recreation Facebook post read.

The pool is in McAdams Park near 13th and I-135.

It is unclear what time the break-in happened, but Lovely said the person cut the locks with bolt cutters. The pool doesn’t have security cameras.

City staff members are working with the Wichita Police Department to “explore the cost and feasibility of installing them,” Lovely said in an email.

Those who have information about the pool damage are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
