Wichita police are investigating a report that a man was skinning dogs Monday evening in Sim Park.

An image shared online this week showed a man kneeling on the ground. It had a blackout image in front of him and another by the rear-wheel of an SUV that had the trunk opened up. The person who posted the image did not immediately respond to a message.

The person said police were called.

“Please be on the lookout,” they said. “I will not be sharing the video.”

A police report released Thursday says a person reported their “neighbor providing (them) with video of unknown (suspect) abusing an animal.”

In a news release Friday, Wichita Police Department called it an “unsettling event” and said they were “urgently seeking to locate and interview the subject seen in the video” to determine if any laws have been violated.

“We take allegations of animal cruelty very seriously and are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all animals in our community,” Chief Joe Sullivan said in the news release. “We urge anyone with information about this case to come forward to help us resolve this matter swiftly.”

On Thursday, when asked in an email, Ford said it was an active investigation; he wouldn’t confirm if the image or video alluded to online show what that person says it does.

“We are investigating the circumstances of this incident to determine whether a crime was committed,” Ford said in an email.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Animal Control at 316-350-3360.
