Why The View’s Sara Haines Is M.I.A. This Week

The View’s Tuesday broadcast was one co-host short of a full panel.

At the top of the hour, just Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin sat at the show’s Hot Topics table, with Sara Haines clearly M.I.A. (She did, however, appear on Monday’s installment.) So why was Haines absent from the show? Goldberg answered that question at the top of the second segment.

“We needed to tell you that Sara’s out for a few days attending a funeral for a family friend. That’s why she’s not here,” she said. The show then quickly moved on to the day’s next topic.

While Haines did not comment specifically about her absence on social media, she did post via Instagram story that she was back home in Iowa.

This isn’t the first time a host has been absent this season. Goldberg missed out on the show’s Season 27 premiere after testing positive for COVID-19. It was the second time a COVID diagnosis had caused her to sit out The View‘s broadcasts, having previously been sidelined by the virus in November 2022.

The View: Which Former Co-Hosts Flamed Out the Fastest?

View List

The View did not alter its hosting lineup at all between Seasons 26 and 27, a rare turn of events for a series with typically high turnover. The past decade has seen the departures of Roșie O’Donnell, Nicole Wallace, Roșie Perez, Raven-Symoné, Michelle Collins, Candace Cameron Bure, Paula Faris, Jedediah Bila, Meghan McCain and Abby Huntsman. Behar and Haines also left and returned in that time.

Griffin, the former communications director for President Trump, and Navarro, a longtime contributor to The View, were both added as permanent hosts ahead of Season 26.
