Why Tom Holland Didn't Join Zendaya at the Met Gala

One of the hosts for tonight's Met Gala is none other than Zendaya, but she made her appearance without her boyfriend, Tom Holland, by her side.

While Holland has actually never attended the Met Gala, his reason for skipping tonight's "Garden of Time" event makes sense: He's starring in Romeo & Juliet on the West End. Holland plays Romeo across from Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet, and performances begin May 11—this weekend! It runs for just 12 weeks only at the Duke of York's Theatre in London, so it's likely Holland is in his final preparations for his performance.

Holland has been a supportive partner as Zendaya's newest film, Challengers, is in theaters. "I know what I'm doing this weekend!" he posted on premiere day, along with a poster of the film. Same goes for Zendaya's support of Holland. She told Vogue she "could not be more proud" of him, adding of his turn in Romeo and Juliet, "I'm going to try to see as many shows as I possibly can."

When they met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Zendaya recalls, "We were both very, very young, but my career was already kind of going, and his changed overnight. One day you're a kid and you're at the pub with your friends, and then the next day you're Spider-Man. I definitely watched his life kind of change in front of him. But he handled it really beautifully."
