Why Simone Biles wrote that she loves her 'Black job' after historic Olympics win
Simone Biles appeared to reference former President Donald Trump in a recent social media post about loving her “Black job.”
“I love my black job,” she wrote on the X platform Friday, a day after she won gold in the women's gymnastics all-around final on Aug. 1.
Her tweet quoted an earlier X post from singer-songwriter Ricky Davila, who shared photos of Biles holding up a gold medal and showing off her silver goat necklace.
“Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning Gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black job,” Davila wrote Thursday.

LeBron James also shared Biles’ post, adding a goat emoji to emphasize that she is the "greatest of all time." James, like Biles, is in Paris for the Olympics. Selected as a flag bearer for the opening ceremony, James is competing for the U.S. men's basketball team.

Biles, who is the most decorated gymnast of all time, has won two gold medals so far in the 2024 Paris Olympics, bringing her lifetime Olympic gold medal count to nine, six of them gold.
The “Black job” phrase appears to be a reference to Trump’s recent remarks during a panel discussion hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago.
At the July 31 event, Trump was asked to clarify something he said in the June presidential debate, when he made the unsubstantiated claim that immigrants to the U.S. are taking “Black jobs” en masse.
A moderator at the NABJ asked to clarify what, exactly, a "Black job" was.
“A Black job is anybody that has a job,” Trump replied. “That’s what it is. Anybody that has — they’re taking the employment away from Black people. They’re coming in, and they’re coming in, they’re invading.”
Since Trump made the comments at the debate, the phrase “Black job” has made the rounds on social media and has been referenced by several public figures, including President Joe Biden.
“Folks, I know what a Black job is. It’s the Vice President of the United States. I know what a Black job is. The first Black president of America, Mr. Barack Obama,” Biden said in a July 16 address at the NAACP Convention in Las Vegas.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., also used the phrase in a recent X post, sharing a photo of herself smiling and writing, “At my ‘Black job.’”
Maryland Governor Wes Moore also referenced the phrase recently in an X post, writing, “Donald Trump is about to find out being the President of the United States is a Black job.”
Biles has not confirmed whether she was referring to Trump’s recent remarks in her Aug. 2 tweet. TODAY.com has reached out to Biles for comment.
This isn’t the first time Biles has appeared to throw shade on social media during her time at the Olympics.
After Team USA won gold in the team finals, she shared photos of her and her teammates celebrating in the arena along with the caption, “lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions.”
Many fans thought her caption was a jab at her ex-teammate, MyKayla Skinner, who said in a June video that she thought this year’s U.S. women’s team had less talent and work ethic than previous competitors.
Skinner later apologized for her remarks on X.
