Why Penelope Cruz Doesn't Want a Party for Her 50th Birthday

Penelope Cruz

In spring 2024, Penelope Cruz turns 50 years old—but the actress has zero plans for throwing a party for her big 5-0.

Cruz opened up about her milestone birthday, which will happen on April 28, during an interview with the Los Angles Times published on Nov. 27. And, spoiler alert: Her lack of wanting a party has nothing to do with being bummed about her age.

"I'm always worrying about everything," she told the publication. "So I don't think I could worry anymore because of turning 50."

Instead, it seems Cruz is opting for a quiet birthday with her husband, Javier Bardem, and their two kids, Leo, 12, and Luna, 10.

"All my friends are preparing me, like, 'You are going to be forced to do a party this time,'" the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides actress told the Los Angeles Times.

Cruz continued: "If you have a party with a lot of your friends that you haven't seen in a long time, you end up super stressed out because you want to give all of them quality time and have conversations. But it's loud and you cannot really hear each other and it becomes so stressful. Maybe I have to learn."

In 2017, Cruz spoke with Gwyneth Paltrow about aging during a conversation for Interview Magazine—or rather, she shared why she doesn't speak about aging.

"Journalists have been asking me, since I was, like, 22, 'Are you afraid of aging?'" she told Paltrow. "That is such a crazy question for a 22-year-old girl or, for that matter, for a 42-year-old. I combat that craziness by refusing to answer the question."

However Cruz ultimately decides to spend her 50th birthday, we hope she has a fantastic time!
