The Kansas City Royals announced that NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will hold a postgame concert on Friday, Aug. 9 at The K.

O’Neal is set to take center stage as “DJ Diesel” following the Royals’ I-70 Series matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals.

“I looked it up and found out what his show is, and it’s cool,” Royals second baseman Michael Massey said. “Anytime you get a name like Shaq to come out, it will be a fun night.”

O’Neal is four-time NBA champion and a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He starred at LSU and then played 19 illustrious NBA seasons, most notably with the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers.

And O’Neal has continued to perform off the court in various ways since his retirement as an NBA player in 2011.

Along with doing regular NBA studio commentary for TNT, he’s a successful actor with multiple movies and TV shows to his credit, a product pitchman ... and a musical artist. His first album, “Shaq Diesel” (released in 1993) sold more than a million copies.

Now, O’Neal will share his love for music with Royals fans. He has performed multiple dance-music sets as a DJ, with a setlist that has typically included hip-hop, EDM and rap elements.

“It’s pretty cool to see him come out there,” Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

O’Neal will perform following the conclusion of the Friday evening fireworks display on Aug. 9 at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals are making a limited number of field passes available for $25.

Fans can purchase single-game tickets (which include the postgame show) or the field pass on the Royals’ official website.
