Why Kenan Thompson Refuses to Discuss His Divorce

Kenan Thompson is opening up about why he's keeping the details of his personal life, well, private.

The Saturday Night Live star and his former wife, Christina Evangeline, split last year after over a decade of marriage, and now, he's explaining why he hasn't spoken out about their relationship—and why he doesn't really plan to.

In his new memoir When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons, Funny Stories & Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown—which officially released today, Tuesday, Dec. 5—he kept most of his thoughts about the breakup to himself.

In fact, the former Nickelodeon child star hasn't publicly spoken out on the 2022 divorce at all, and for honorable reasons. "I didn't really want to speak out of turn on people who aren't there to tell their version of the story as well," he said during an appearance on the Today Show on Dec. 4. "So, I just kind of told my perspective, basically."

Thompson is, however, willing to talk about his love for the ex-couple's daughters Georgia, 9, and Gianna, 5, saying that being a girl dad is "the best."

While filing for divorce in June 2022, the comedic actor requested 50/50 custody of their two children. "They're my daily focus outside of myself. They are definitely my sweethearts," the Kenan & Kel alum said. "I love them."

As for his memoir, Thompson, who began rising to stardom at just five years old, promises the book will dive into "99 percent" of his life story, as he aimed to "tell the whole story from A to Z."

When it comes to his career, though, he is, impressively, "by far" the longest-running cast member of SNL in history, and even admitted that he doesn't really know if he sees himself ever leaving the show, asking, in part, "What's more exciting?"
