Why this ESPN analyst has No. 4 Florida State on upset alert this weekend vs. Wake Forest

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit is placing No. 4 Florida State football on upset alert this weekend.

The No. 4 Seminoles (7-0, 5-0 ACC) are off to their best start since the 2014 season but face their first road challenge in a month when they take on Wake Forest (4-3, 1-3) at noon at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The game will be broadcast on ABC. FSU's game is one of six of the AP Top 10 ranked teams playing either true road games or at a neutral site this weekend.

“I just think Florida State, going to Wake. It’s always sleepy at Wake and Wake has a good team, well coached, and if you don’t show up with the right attitude you’re going to be in the fourth quarter looking up and it’s a three-point game. It has that kind of feel this week for Florida State," Herbstreit said.

The Demon Deacons have won three straight over the Seminoles, including a 31-21 win in Tallahassee last season. Wake Forest defeated FSU 35-14 (2021) and 22-20 (2019) in its last two trips to Winston-Salem.

The last win on the road against the Demon Deacons was a 26-19 victory in 2017. FSU has not beaten Wake Forest under head coach Mike Norvell.

The Seminoles enter this game as a 20.5-point favorite over Wake Forest, per BetOnline.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a controversial 21-17 victory over Pittsburgh. Starting quarterback Mitch Griffis missed last week's victory with Santino Marucci starting in his place.

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson did not tip his hand on who will start.
