Bella Hadid opted to skip the Met Gala for the second year in a row. (The last time Hadid attended the Met Gala was in 2022, during which she wore a custom corset dress by Burberry for the night’s “Gilded Glamour” theme.)

The model’s absence was unexpected, given that she was last spotted in New York City on May 3, while promoting her new fragrance line, Ôrəbella, with her cowboy boyfriend, Adan Banuelos. But it would seem the couple might have been eager to return home to Texas, where Hadid has reportedly purchased property in order to live alongside Banuelos.

Hadid spoke to Allure last week about stepping back from her fashion career to launch Ôrəbella and spend time in the South. “After 10 years of modeling, I realized I was putting so much energy and love and effort into something that, in the long run, wasn’t necessarily giving it back to me,” Hadid said.

Hadid also told Allure how she approaches beauty and style out of the spotlight, saying, “Just as I have styled myself for years now–which I still do–I love being able to do my own hair and makeup, be happy with how I look, and get ready with my girlfriends here in Texas. We have the best time, and I never feel like I need to do too much.”

“For the first time now, I’m not putting on a fake face,” she added. “If I don’t feel good, I won’t go. If I don’t feel good, I take time for myself. And I’ve never had the opportunity to do that or say that before. Now when anybody sees me in pictures and they say, I look happy, I genuinely am. I am feeling better; my bad days now were my old good days.”
