Who's moving on? Here are the likely futures for Augusta area's state legislators in 2024

The Augusta area is represented by eight state House districts and three state Senate districts in the Georgia General Assembly. Seven of those legislative seats are occupied by unopposed candidates in the November general election.

Here's a summary of which state legislators won, and where their races are headed in the coming months.

House District 123

Republican incumbent Rob Leverett's district includes just a small notch of Columbia County, while most of the district extends north toward Athens. Unopposed by a Democrat, Leverett is currently unopposed in the November general election.

House District 125

When Harlem attorney Barry Fleming resigned his House seat in late 2023 to accept a judgeship, Gary Richardson resigned his District 3 post on the Columbia County Board of Commissioners to pursue Fleming's seat. Winning Tuesday's primary, Richardson now faces Democrat Kay Turner in the November general election.

House District 126

Democratic incumbent Gloria Frazier completed her most recent term in 2024 and is not running for re-election. Running in the November election will be Democrat L.C. Myles Jr., a financial planner, against Republican William C. Harris, who lost to Frazier in the 2022 general election.

House District 127

Physician and Republican incumbent Mark Newton's district straddles Richmond and Columbia counties, with the Augusta National Golf Club at its eastern tip. Unopposed by a Democrat, Newton is currently unopposed in the November general election.

House District 129

In one of the few contested primaries in Tuesday's races, Democratic incumbent Karlton Howard defeated challenger Scott Cambers 3,734 to 1,148. Unopposed by a Republican, Howard is currently unopposed in the November general election.

House District 130

Democrat incumbent Lynn Gladney serves a district covering eastern Richmond County and bordering the Savannah River down to the Burke County line. Unopposed by a Republican, Gladney is currently unopposed in the November general election.

House District 131

With Republican incumbent Jodi Lott not running for another term, a crowded five-person field competed to win the seat. The top two vote-getters in Tuesday's election, construction company CEO Rob Clifton and retired educator and Army veteran Paul Abbott, will square off in a June 18 primary. The winner will run against Democrat Heather Rose White in November.

House District 132

Democratic incumbent Brian Prince represents a district along the western side of Richmond County, including Fort Gordon and reaching down into Jefferson County. Unopposed by a Republican, Prince is currently unopposed in the November general election.

Senate District 22

Democratic incumbent Harold V. Jones III's district spans much of Richmond County, including Fort Gordon. Unopposed by a Republican, Prince is currently unopposed in the November general election.

Senate District 23

Republican incumbent Max Burns' sprawling district reaches from Thomson almost all the way down south to Vidalia. Unopposed in Tuesday's primary, Burns will face Democrat Shayna Boston in the November general election.

Senate District 24

Republican incumbent Lee Anderson won his seat in 2016 in a runoff against Greg Gryzbowski. The district includes northern Columbia County and stretches north to Lake Hartwell. Unopposed by a Democrat, Anderson is currently unopposed in the November general election.
