White Pigeon boys win six regional titles on Friday

SAUGATUCK - The White Pigeon boys finished second at Region 34-4 held in Saugatuck on Friday.

The Chiefs scored 90 points on the day, finishing behind Kalamazoo Hackett in first place with 144.5 points. Centreville came in fifth for the boys at 71 and Marcellus finished ninth at 25 points. The girl's regional was won by Saugatuck with 163 points and Gobles was second with 129.5 points. Centreville finished fourth (61) and White Pigeon was 10th (16) while Marcellus finished 11th (13.33).

By MHSAA rules, any student-athletes finishing in the top two spots in an event qualify. There are also qualifying times and marks for each event as well.

Sturgis track sets (even more) records at regionals

White Pigeon had a handful of regional champions. Jordan Pisco won both the high jump (6-3 feet) and the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.48 seconds. Josh Davidson ran to first place and a regional championship in the 400 run at 51.82 seconds.

The Chief 800 relay team of Davidson, Drew Kobryn, Pisco and Mekhi Singleton also were crowned regional champions. They paced the field with a time of 1:32.23. That same group brought home first place in the mile relay as well, winning with a time of 3:34.55.

Seth Miller won the regional title in the shot put. His distance was 46-3 feet.

Centreville's Leah Roberts won a regional championship as well. Hers was in the high jump event, where she cleared 5-0 feet for the regional title.

Deandre Stout of Centreville was second in the 200 (23.14). Kobryn ran to second in the 400 (52.03). Cohen Longacre of Centreville was third in the 300 hurdles with a qualifying run of 43.43.

The Bulldog 400 relay team came in second. Carter Cartier, Declan Kane, Brendan Are and Stout ran a time of 44.76 to qualify. Centreville also qualified in the 800 relay. The team of Cartier, Kane, Longacre and Stout came in fourth, but ran 1:34.12 to meet the state time.

Also qualifying for Centreville was the mile relay. Kane, Oliver Mildenberg, Longacre and Stout posted a time of 3:38.69, which was fourth, but a qualifying time.

In the shot put, Wes Roberts of White Pigeon had a distance of 44-10 feet. Marcellus' Marvin Jones Jr. had a distance of 42-9 feet and Matthew Bates of Centreville posted a distant of 42-3 feet. Each of them met the qualifying distance. Roberts also qualified in the discus event, tossing 126-6 feet for third.

Max Yoder of Centreville was second in the pole vault at 11-0 feet.

McCaw leads Mendon state qualifiers, Colon girl's 800 relay qualifies

For the girls, Centreville got a qualifying run from Ellie Miller in the 200 (27.85) as she finished fourth. Claiming sixth place in the 800 run was Berkley Shingledecker, she beat the qualifying mark and ran a time of 2:32.84.

The 800 relay for Centreville also qualified. Nevaeh Prichard, Shingledecker, Roberts and Miller finished third, but met the qualifying run time at 1:53.21. Centreville's mile relay is also going to the finals. The team of Ninon Gontier, Arianna Six, Shingledecker an Ellie Reed ran a time of 4:27.89 for third place.

Miller's leap in the long jump was good for second. She cleared 15-10.5 feet.

For Marcellus, Madisyn Harrison finished second overall in the pole vault. Her height cleared was 8-0 feet.

The Division 3 state finals will be held at Kent City High School on Saturday, June 1.
