White House: VP Kamala Harris is not a nominee for U.S. Supreme Court

Supreme Court Justice Harris?

The White House dismissed speculation on Wednesday that President Biden might nominate Vice President Kamala Harris to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.

The president has pledged to appoint a Black woman to the nation’s highest court, and Harris was the California attorney general before being elected to the U.S. Senate from the Golden State.

“The president intends to run for reelection, and he intends to run with Vice President Harris on the ticket as his running mate,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

Among the names being circulated as potential nominees are California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger, U.S. Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, prominent civil rights lawyer Sherrilyn Ifill, and U.S. District Judge Michelle Childs Biden has nominated to be an appeals court judge.
