White House press briefing: Listen live

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will deliver a daily press briefing Tuesday, joined by national security spokesman John Kirby.

The Biden administration is currently dealing with a wide slate of security concerns as it works to keep the Israel-Hamas war from expanding into a larger regional conflict with Iran and its allies.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was discharged from Walter Reed Medical Center on Monday after treatment for complications from surgery for prostate cancer. For the time being, the Pentagon reports that Austin will be working from home.

Congressional Republicans in particular have raised concerns about Austin’s failure to inform the White House of his whereabouts and condition. President Biden has expressed confidence in the defense secretary, although when asked he agreed that Austin’s secrecy had been a failure in judgment.

According to Kirby, Austin was able to oversee operations against Houthi rebels from the hospital.

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EST.
