Signing day live blog: Norland CB Tarver flips to Nebraska

"High possibility" Mainland 5-star DL LJ McCray doesn't sign Wednesday

Mainland five-star defensive lineman/edge rusher LJ McCray, a Florida commit, may not sign on Wednesday.

The news was first reported on X by On3 national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett and McCray reposted it within minutes.

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound McCray, ranked No. 4 on the USA Today Florida Network top 100, verbally committed to the Gators in October, but was also being pursued by Florida State and Auburn.

McCray put out a wordless post on Tuesday night that appeared to indicate he wasn't sure where he should sign.

McCray had 80 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and forced three fumbles in 2023 as the Buccaneers won the Class 3S state championship. He had six games this season with at least three tackles for loss and two sacks.

Norland CB Tarver flips to Nebraska

Norland cornerback Larry Tarver Jr. has flipped from Maryland to Nebraska.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Tarver committed to Maryland on June 27, but was offered by the Cornhuskers during an official visit in October. He announced his decision on Wednesday morning.

Tarver had 27 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and four interceptions and helped the Vikings reach the Class 2M state championship game in 2023.

Central LB Shavers signs with Nebraska

Miami Central linebacker Vincent Shavers is headed to Nebraska.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Shavers committed to Miami in May, but decommitted last week. He took an official visit to Nebraska this past weekend and was expected to end up a Cornhusker. Shavers made it official during a ceremony at Central on Wednesday morning.

Shavers had 46 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, seven sacks and two forced fumbles in his lone season with the Rockets.

Charles Lester signs with FSU, trolls social media

Venice five-star cornerback Charles Lester, the No. 11 ranked player on the USA Today Florida Network top 100, added some early morning intrigue to the early signing period.

The longtime Florida State commit posted Wednesday morning that he would be waiting until Friday to sign because he had some decision-making to do, which was eerily similar to what Lakeland five-star cornerback Cormani McClain did last year when opted not to sign with Miami in December and ultimately flipped to Colorado.

A few minutes later, Florida State posted that Lester had signed with the words, "Never a doubt."

Lester committed to Florida State in June but added just a hint of doubt early this week with some cryptic social media posts, sparking speculation that Colorado coach Deion Sanders could be trying to flip one of the top cornerbacks in the nation once again.

Lester recorded 50 tackles, intercepted three passes and had seven pass breakups for Venice’s Class 4S state runner-up team this fall. He also caught 12 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns.

Buchholz DL Jackson officially signs with Texas A&M

Buchholz defensive lineman Kendall Jackson ended a chaotic few weeks by officially signing with Texas A&M on Wednesday morning.

Jackson, ranked No. 81 on the USA Today Florida Network top 100, was committed to Florida for months before decommitting on Dec. 2. He then committed to Miami on Dec. 9 but announced on Tuesday that he intended to sign with the Aggies.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Jackson had 50 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks and 14 quarterback hurries for the Bobcats in 2023.

Stay tuned to USA Today Florida Network for live updates

The early signing period starts Wednesday, and the USA Today Florida Network will be covering it for the next three days.

Most of players on the USA Today Florida Network top 100 have announced their decisions, but that doesn't mean Wednesday is going to be boring.

Several of the top players, including Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State commit), Mainland defensive lineman/edge LJ McCray (Florida) and Miami Central edge/defensive lineman Armondo Blount (Florida State commit) are being heavily pursued by other programs and could flip on Wednesday.

Some of the top uncommitted players scheduled to announce on Wednesday include Carrollwood Day edge rusher Solomon Williams, Carrollwood Day running back Anthony Carrie and Sumner athlete Greg Smith III.

Until the fax machines start working (do they really still use those?) here are some of the storylines to watch during the early signing period.
