Where to get solar eclipse glasses in NJ ahead of April 8 event

On April 8, parts of the United States, Mexico, and Canada will have the opportunity to witness a solar eclipse crossing over the North American continent.

North Jersey won't be in the direct path for the best view of the eclipse but you should still see something that day. If you're someone who will be traveling out of state to see it or want to see what you can from home, here are a few places you can obtain eclipse glasses from in New Jersey:

Science centers have solar eclipse glasses

The gift shops at science museums, such as the Liberty Science Center and New Jersey State Museum have a collection of the solar eclipse glasses.

Your local library may have solar glasses

Libraries may offer eclipse glasses during special events or educational programs related to astronomy. Check with your local library!

Department stores sell eclipse glasses

Stores such as Target, Walmart and Sears are selling Eclipse glasses starting from $4.99.

Shop online for glasses to see solar eclipse

Websites like Amazon and eBay are selling bundles of these glasses. A pack of 10 glasses go for $9.99 on Amazon.

Optical stores or camera shops may offer eclipse glasses

Many local optical stores stock up eclipse glasses during the season. Electronic retailers such as Best Buy also have solar eclipse glasses available. If you're visiting New York in the next few days B&H Photo and Video has them starting at $5.

Before purchasing, ensure that the glasses are compliant with the ISO 12312-2 safety standard for viewing the sun. These glasses will provide adequate protection for your eyes while viewing a solar eclipse. Always exercise caution and never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection.
