Where Oregon women's basketball's roster stands after third transfer portal commitment

The Oregon women's basketball roster is beginning to take shape after another transfer portal commitment Tuesday night.

Following the commitments of guard Elisa Mevius (Siena) and Salimatou Kourouma (Arizona), the Ducks received their third pledge through the portal Tuesday when UC Santa Barbara foward Alexis Whitfield announced on Instagram she would transfer to Oregon.

The 6-foot-2 senior averaged 15.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in 2023 for the Gauchos and fills a need at forward vacated by Grace VanSlooten (Michigan State) and Kennedy Basham (Arizona State), who transferred this offseason.

Whitfield began her career at Washington in 2020, where in her freshman season an injury derailed her first season. She played in 12 games as a freshman before a season-ending injury, and then played in 21 games off the bench for the Huskies in 2021-22 before hitting the portal and heading to Santa Barbara.

As a Gaucho, Whitfield played in 31 games off the bench in her first season before erupting last year and earning first team All-Big West honors. Though Whitfield scores most of her points in the post, she shot 38.3% from behind the 3-point line a year ago and is a legit threat from the outside.

With Whitfield's commitment, the Ducks currently have 11 players on their roster and will likely look to add one or two more to fill out their depth.
