Where do experts think TCU football players will land in this week’s NFL draft?

The NFL draft is here, and the first round is slated to begin Thursday night.

The draft could feature a lot of TCU representation, as the Horned Frogs have at least nine prospects vying to be drafted after their 13-2 season in the first year under coach Sonny Dykes.

Where do experts think various Horned Frogs like Quentin Johnston and Max Duggan could land? Let’s jump into it.

Wide receiver Quentin Johnston

Projected: First-round pick. The Fiesta Bowl Offensive MVP seems like a safe bet to land in the mid-to-late first round. Johnston was not formally invited to the draft green room, but still received feedback that he had a first-round grade for most teams.

Starting with the Packers with the No. 13 pick, Johnston could go anywhere from 13 to 28.

Offensive lineman Steve Avila

Projection: Day Two. Avila is one of the top interior offensive linemen prospects in the draft with some ranking him as the top guard prospect Avila will likely be a round two pick and has been associated with the Dallas Cowboys frequently in mock drafts.

Quarterback Max Duggan

Projection: Day three. After leading TCU to the national championship game and finishing second in the Heisman race, Duggan made himself into a NFL prospect. Duggan is currently projected to land in round six or seven, though being an undrafted free agent wouldn’t be the worst scenario for Duggan.

Running back Kendre Miller

Projection: Day three. NFL.com has Miller projected for round four, which would make him a day three pick. Miller could easily sneak into the third if a team likes him. Miller was hampered by a knee injury suffered during the Fiesta Bowl that impacted his pre-draft process which likely impacted his rankings on team boards.

Cornerback Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson

Projection: Day three. The nephew of NFL Hall of Famer and former TCU great LaDainian Tomlinson is currently projected as a potential round five pick. Hodges-Tomlinson won the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s top defensive back. His 5-foot-7 height is the only thing holding him back from going sooner.

Defensive lineman Dylan Horton

Projection: Horton is projected as a day three pick with teams potentially grabbing him in the fifth round. Horton was TCU’s top pass rusher and came alive in the back half of the season.

Linebacker Dee Winters

Projection: The Fiesta Bowl Defensive MVP is likely another day three pick with NFL.com projecting him as a fifth- or sixth-round pick. Winters is undersized, but explosive and in the right scheme can cause havoc as a pass rushing specialist.

Undrafted free agents

The Horned Frogs have a few more players that could land on NFL rosters even if they aren’t selected in the draft. Derius Davis has a chance to land in round seven, but the explosive returner is probably a safer bet to be a priority free agent.

Offensive lineman Alan Ali, receiver Taye Barber and running back Emari Demercado are also in line to be scooped up quickly once the draft is over.
