Where to find eclipse-themed food and drinks around Indianapolis

Next Monday, the moon will completely obscure the face of the sun for a few minutes, plunging those in the eclipse's path — which includes central Indiana into darkness.

Eateries around Indianapolis are gearing up for the eclipse, baking and brewing batches of themed dishes.

As you plan your eclipse viewing, here are some places to find special food and drink to mark the occasion.

The AMP at 16 Tech

1220 Waterway Blvd., theampindy.com

Multiple vendors at the AMP will dish out solar eclipse specials April 5-8. Pop in for a themed treat at the following stands:

Boba and Everything will offer a vanilla Thai milk tea dubbed galaxy milk tea.

The Bull Grill will pile up two smashed patties, smoked Gouda cheese, glazed bacon, onion rings and whiskey barbecue sauce on a brioche bun to form the Red Moon Burger.

Circle City Sweets will bake special batches of chocolate ganache-filled macarons, each decorated to display a different moon phase. You can reserve a box of six for $16 by emailing cindy@circlecitysweets.com.

Goody2Treats will decorate cookies and cream cupcakes with chocolate and golden Oreos to form eclipse cupcakes.

Big Lug Taproom and Half Liter BBQ

1435 E. 86th St., (317) 672-3503, biglugcanteen.com; 5301 N. Winthrop Ave., (463) 212-8180, halfliterbbq.com

These Sahm's Hospitality Group establishments will offer four new menu items prominently featuring black and yellow ingredients as homage to the moon and sun all day April 8. The Black Hole Sun burger ($14) sandwiches a 7-ounce Angus beef or meatless patty, cheddar cheese and mustard aioli on a black sesame seed bun. There are also Glimmer of Gold blue corn tortilla chips topped with the usual nachos fare ($12), blackened shrimp tacos in blue corn tortillas (three for $14) and baked brie topped with blackberry compote and house-made chili oil ($13).

Diners 21 and older can also enjoy the Path of Totality, a limited-edition blackberry espresso sour beer available in cans and on tap.

Cunningham Restaurant Group locations

Multiple locations, (317) 378-7274, crgdining.com

Indianapolis' largest restaurant group will roll out special craft cocktails at some of its Indy-area restaurants on April 8 only. Guests can grab a complimentary pair of eclipse viewing glasses (while supplies last) and knock back a themed drink at the following restaurants:

Provision (2721 E. 86th St.) in the Ironworks Hotel will serve the Ring of Fire, a ruby-red blend of fruity white tequila, strawberry syrup, red pepper juice, simple syrup and lime with herbaceous and bitter liqueurs.

Bru Burger Carmel (12901 Old Meridian St., Carmel) will feature two limited-edition drinks. The Solar Mule blends dark rum with ginger beer and elderflower liqueur; the Snake Bite Eclipse features half a glass of Ciderboys hard cider topped with a dark pour of Quaff On! Busted Knuckle American Porter to create a bubbly, two-toned brew.

Bru Burger's Plainfield location (2499 Perry Crossing Way, Plainfield) will offer the Lunar Shadow, a spiced, citrusy rum drink featuring pineapple juice and allspice liqueur.

Sun King Brewing

Downtown Indy, Fishers and Carmel locations, sunkingbrewing.com

Sun King's downtown (135 N. College Ave.), Carmel (351 Monon Blvd., Carmel) and Fishers (9713 District North Drive, Fishers) taprooms will host eclipse viewing parties from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities while sipping the Path of Totality, a new beer crafted in cooperation with the Simons Foundation and 12 other breweries. The Path of Totality is a golden ale infused with Totality Dark Roast coffee from Sun Bean Roastery, merging light and dark flavors in reference to the sun and moon.

Cans of Totality Dark Roast coffee, which features notes of chocolate, peanuts and citrus, are also available online. Orders can be shipped or picked up at Amelia's Windsor Park (1637 Nowland Ave.).

White River State Park

801 W. Washington St., (317) 233-2434, whiteriverstatepark.org

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 8, 20 food trucks will be stationed along Old Washington Street Bridge at White River State Park for the Lunacy! solar eclipse festival. In addition to the vendors' standard menus, you can sample themed dishes at the following trucks:

Books Bourbon and Bacon will scatter black truffle, sugar, black truffle queso and cheddar crema over a frankfurter encased in fried black truffle batter dubbed the Blackout Korean corn dog.

Hometown Mini Donuts will douse its mini donuts in Reese's peanut butter chocolate spread and crushed Oreos, yielding a sugar rush called the Reese's Oreo Eclipse.

J's Lobster Truck's rather abstract take on the celestial event features hush puppy moons eclipsed by bits of lobster and drizzles of sauce.

Middle of Nowhere will offer blacked out garlic gravy fries, a heap of generously seasoned fries topped with black garlic gravy and cheese.

Pure-trition will steer away from the fried motif with its açaí eclipse bowl, a moon-like circle of banana slices obscured by blueberries, cacao nibs and honey atop a bed of granola and coconut flakes.

Taste of Manila will top a cup of Filipino taho (soft, custardy tofu sweetened with syrup) with black tapioca pearls.Have another eclipse special to share? Let us know.
